Yeast infection:
It is estimated that 80% of all women have a candida infection of some level and for men the number is around 50% of yeast infections. |
Candida: (the shorter name) has been known as a disease previously under the name monilia but has later been given the name candidiasis from the funghus candida. In more serious cases it is called systematic candidiasis. |

Candidiasis is a relatively new and devastating disease. It has been with us for many years but with todays medical treatments and our lifestyle, the new thing is that the yeast infection has been able to get a very strong foothold and grow in our bodies. Candida has been a partner with humans forever. Yeast is found everywhere - in the air, water, fruit etc. The human body has adapted and developed a good defense system to tread yeast infections. The bacteria in our intestines have developed for thousands of years into a natural cure for candidiasis. With antibiotics, this natural defense has started to break down. Antibiotics kill bacteria - unfortunately it doesn't bother much which bacteria it kills. Not only the coli, streptococci or tuberculosi and other disease-carrying bacteria are killed but unfortunately also the "good bacteria" in our intestines and with them - also the defense against candida and thrush in all forms. For a normal, healthy person, a limited cure of antibiotics will only kill off the intestinal bacteria for a shorter period, but for anyone with a less good immune system or in the case of longer or repeated antibiotic treatments, there is a serious risk that candida will "take over" in the guts. If this happens, it will be very difficult to get the balance right again and it is a serious risk that you may develop a chronical candida infection. With the intestinal bacteria off the playing field, they can no longer assist in its normal way which is to help the body to take up nutrition, which in turn may lead to a breakdown of the immune systems defense mechanisms (autoimmune diseases). There is no good yeast infection medicine but instead you need to embark on candida cleanses via the diet and generally strengthen your immune defense. It will take some time and you will need to be strict about it. Read more on candida cleansing here.
